I will miss your laughter.
Even the fake giggle that you put up when you talk on the phone.
I will miss your singing. I will miss you humming to songs, from breaking benjamin to ellarum chollanu.
I will miss the way you wag your leg and sigh after eating good food.especially butter chicken.
I will miss the way you push the coffee table with your leg unintentionally while watching tv.
The way you let out a shriek each time Ellen cracks a joke. The way you smile when she dances.
Actually just the way you smile.
I will miss you storming into a mall and rushing to fabindia and going gaga over the oversized kurtas.
And the way you say 'want to grab a bite before we head home?'
I will miss the cold coffee in the evenings.
I will miss the messages that you send me. The way you try to impress me with your teenage vocabulary by saying things like 'yo babes'. Yo babes is not cool mum.
I will miss you fiddling with my earlobes and telling me how I look like a man because I havent worn a earring in two years.
I will miss you nudging me during movies like Juno and White oleander. You think I'm a rockstar dont you? I'm not.
I will miss you flaring up your nostrils after every fight just so you have an edge in the argument. The way you make funny faces.
I will miss counting the number of moles on your face.
And the smell of tiger balm on your forehead.
I will miss the memories.
Like the time you had that bindi on your nose and the dhobi was staring at you and you had no idea. Oh how we laughed about it later.
And the time when I was in junior kg and you discovered that my partner used to poke me real bad with her pencil. The next day you gave me eggs for breakfast and said it will give me the strength to fight back. Maybe it was the egg or maybe i took you way too seriously, but I went and slapped her that day.
I will miss for being the coolest teacher in podar.
Every ex student of your's tells me that. How you act strict with them and then break out into fits of laughter.
They forget my name. They remember yours.
They love you for having great taste in music. From pink floyd to the beatles to deep purple to ustad rahad fateh ali khan. Thats the one thing I haven't inherited from you.
I will miss you for trying to be funny in front of my friends. The way I cut you off doing the typical ugh mom grunt.
I will miss you for being the spirited and fiercely independant woman you are. For being the student who came second in the universty for the psychology entrance. For being the woman who fought against her own family to do what she loved- teach. So what if it breaks your back.
I will miss you for the way you write. The last time you got your article published,it was almost 10 years back. I read it eight times. I was so proud. I'm not half the writer that you are but I'd like to believe that I've got that gift from you.
And yeah, I really do want you to write books.
I will miss you for being so strong. I dont know what it is like to lose your father when you're 17.
But i know its tough and he would be proud.
Yes Mum, I will miss you if you die tomorow.
I'm surprised you asked.
